Hatteras ferry priority loading passes (viewed from inside a vehicle) for Ocracoke residents will have to be renewed this year.

Updated Jan. 9 and 19, 2019

Ocracoke residents will need to reapply in early February for updated 2019 to 2020 priority stickers for the Hatteras Inlet ferry.

The NCDOT Ferry Division personnel at the Silver Lake ferry office will process renewals and apply stickers from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. over three days  alphabetically from Feb. 5 to 7. Parking will be in the No. 4 stacking lane.

Residents whose last name starts with A to H can apply on Feb. 5; last names starting with I to P will be on Feb. 6 and those with last names starting with Q to Z will be on Feb 7.

Ferry Division spokesman Tim Hass said anyone who can’t make it on the three days of distribution can go to the office any time afterwards to get their priority pass.

Only permanent residents who have both a valid driver’s license with an Ocracoke street address and a vehicle registration card with an Ocracoke post office box are eligible for priority loading passes.

Only one pass will be issued per vehicle.

Priority loading stickers will be applied in the top left portion of the driver’s side windshield just below the tinted glass. Stickers not in this location will not be honored.

Residents should have their old stickers removed before arriving for a renewal sticker.
