The Hatteras Village Civic Association, along with the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, will launch the First Annual Hatteras Village Waterfowl Festival Feb. 22 to 24 at various locations in Hatteras Village.

The festival will begin on Friday evening with a “Fin, Feather and Bourbon” event at the Hatteras Civic Center. Attendees will sample fine seafood and fowl dishes accompanied by an assortment of wine pairings and North Carolina bourbons. There will also be a silent auction, profits to benefit the Cape Hatteras schools’ art programs.

During the day on Saturday, events will be varied and at different locations in the village.

Decoy collectors and bird carvers will be featured at the Community Building. Also meeting at that area will be the “Teal Wings” activities, which are geared towards our younger attendee and includes a camo egg hunt.

Attendees interested in a Winter Bird Walk will meet at the Hatteras Island Ocean Center.  An interactive educational trailer will be on hand as well as Hawk Manor Falconry, demonstrating their birds of prey. Boats will take attendees out to see working blinds and a curtain blind will be on display.

The Cape Hatteras schools’ art students will display a show featuring waterfowl, and attendees will have an opportunity to paint their own masterpiece with Trish Dempsey at Saltair Images. Artists and vendors will be on hand with a plethora of art and product for attendees to peruse. Dinner will be served on Saturday night featuring local seafood and attendees are invited to breakfast Sunday morning before departure.
