River City Rockin’ Blues band held a fundraising concert in October and on Saturday presented a check for $3,500 to Ocracoke School.

RCRB founder Nannette Garrett organized the event in the Washington Civic Center. The day-long event consisted of performances by numerous musical artists, both local and regional, local food trucks, raffle door prizes, as well as a silent auction to raise funds for the recovery of Ocracoke School following devastating flooding from Hurricane Dorian on Sept. 6.

The devastation left Ocracoke students without school to attend for an entire month. Ocracoke School was flooded with more than three feet of water and extensive damage to equipment. Students took classes online until early October when they returned to class at three different locations.

Garrett presented the check to Samantha Hodson, Ocracoke’s girls basketball coach, at an away basketball game Saturday (Jan. 11) at Bear Grass.
