Jimmy O’Neal

James “Jimmy” Elvin O’Neal, 66, of Ocracoke, passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2024, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Born on October 7, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Helen Evans O’Neal and James Elvin O’Neal, Sr.

Jimmy lived a life marked by service, hard work and deep love for his family.

Jimmy served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard, a testament to his dedication and commitment. Following his service, he ventured into the seas as a commercial fisherman before transitioning into construction.

Most recently, he found joy working with Rex and Miggie O’Neal at Wheelie Fun Golf Carts, where his presence was valued and his work appreciated. Known for his kind and generous spirit, James touched the lives of many around him.

His greatest passion was his family, and he loved his sons dearly, Daniel Bruce O’Neal and James Patrick O’Neal, who survive him along with his sisters, Helen O’Neal (Roger Parsons) and Diane Edman; his loved cat, Sunshine; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins of the O’Neal clan, and lots of friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, in the Ocracoke United Methodist Church. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring the life and legacy of a man who gave so much to so many.
