The NC Weather Forecast Office has issued a heads-up that a strong cold front will move through the region on Wednesday (March 5) into Thursday and will bring with it multiple minor land hazards and moderate to significant marine impacts.

Southerly winds will strengthen along the coast through Wednesday with gusts up to 40 mph, which may cause temporary suspension of ferry service and hazardous driving conditions.

The front may have severe thunderstorms, a possible tornado threat and rainfall totals on the order of one half to one inch with higher amounts possible locally.

From Cape Hatteras to Cape Lookout high swells may cause minor beach erosion and localized ocean overwash.
