The Ocracoke Community Pool Association will hold “A Taste of Ocracoke” fundraiser from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 27, on the Community Square dock.

Local food purveyors will be on hand to sell their specialties, said Ruth Toth, pool association president.

“It gives people an opportunity to try out the food of different establishments and enjoy the sunset,” she said.

A bake sale will be held for the Food For Folks program that delivers lunches to homebound islanders. Toth said if anyone wants to donate baked goods to contact Teresa Adams.

Already lined up are the following vendors: Jordan with her popular sour dough bread; Trudy Austin with fig preserves, fig cake and fig barbecue sauce; Hart’s Hot Dog Hut; Ocracoke Working Watermen will serve some prepared seafood items; Blackbeard’s Tears Oysters with oysters for sale and for tasting; Helios Hideaway with cold foods and fig pizza by the slice.

No alcohol will be sold or permitted, but 1718 Brewing Ocracoke will brew a special non-alcoholic root beer. Chilly Water is donating canned water and Moonraker Tea Shop will also have teas to sample.

The Ocracoke Foundation, who owns the Community Square and dock area, is donating the space for the fundraiser.

Price to taste test the foods will be $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 to 14.
