Island artist Kitty Martin Mitchell will show new works Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Down Creek Gallery’s continuing Expose Yourself to Art series of receptions that are open to all.
The reception, from 5 to 8 p.m., features light hors d’oeuvres and live music.
Mitchell, who has a degree in art and who teaches art for Ocracoke School, says her work is greatly inspired by her father, Charles R. Martin, who was a photographer.
She explores many media–oils, graphite and acrylic paint, sometimes incorporating themes to bring attention to world events.
Teaching has allowed her to glean inspiration from children as she incorporates some of the fearlessness of children into “playing with paint and images.”
Rob King will provide music.
